Principles
Development Principles
Kainga Maha is committed to providing an innovative and forward-thinking service and approach to development management. From the outset of any development project, we first and foremost seek to understand what the local housing needs are, and the local community context, to determine the appropriate housing mix, tenure and development strategy. This is critical to ensuring the right homes are built in the right locations. We understand the commercial realities of development and so appreciate the intricate balance of ensuring development viability is maintained whilst also optimising housing and social outcomes, without compromising on quality or deviating from our core values.

To unlock long-lasting positive outcomes, we often need to challenge the status quo and embrace alternative or new design solutions. This is our 'happy' place.

Partnerships
Better together
We believe that placemaking and a partnership approach is not an ‘add on’ cost to a project but should be a comprehensive approach to the planning and design of successful new communities and places. If done so with sincerity, it has the potential to deliver social, environmental and economic returns for all.

As placemakers and for-purpose developers, we know it’s critical to put people at the heart of the process.

Partnering with the community is vital because it:
• Builds trust, transparency and strong relationships with the local community
• Fosters long-lasting collaboration throughout a development project and beyond
• Creates an open conversation with the local community
• Creates a platform to share vision and intention, and listen to informed and relevant voices
• Informs strategic and proactive opportunities to use resources to deliver social outcomes
• Creates positive change and regeneration – extending beyond the provision of housing

Sustainability
Climate Action, Not Climate Change
The changing climate presents both challenges and an exciting opportunity to demonstrate leadership as to how property development can be both sustainable and affordable. Achieving the best sustainability outcomes for a project begins at the start of design, with the integrated design process. We have in-depth understanding of how each discipline affects another, how to minimise embodied carbon and also stimulate the local economy. It is all integrated, and it is the balancing of these disciplines along with consideration of the long-term operation of the homes that enable us to design and build sustainable, healthy homes that people love to live in.
